About Angel Rey
Angel Rey is a renowned vocalist, lyricist and performer born and raised in New York City. He grew up making mixtapes of his favorite songs off the radio. His music is heavily influenced by his family, ranging from Classical to Latin to R&B to Hip/Hop. Angel will attribute early singing lessons from his bootleg copy of The Bodyguard Soundtrack!
Angel studied classical and jazz voice at Binghamton University while performing in various theater productions and in the 80’s a cappella group, The Rhythm Method. Highlights included singing Ray Charles’ version of “America The Beautiful” with the Harpur Jazz Ensemble. Bandleader Michael Carbone gave him the nickname Angel “Ray” Reynoso, inspiring Angel to drop the last four letters of his last name and introduce himself to the world as Angel Rey!
In 2010, Angel was awarded Best Male Solo for his performance of “Closer” with One Guy Upstate at the 26th Annual Harmony Sweepstakes A Cappella Festival, held at Columbia University in New York City. Other credits include singing backup for Latin recording artists Lusi Fonsi, David Bisbal, Laura Pausini and Alejandro Sanz as well as voice-over work with the Community & Outreach department at Sesame Workshop.
Angel can be found performing all over the New York Tri-state area at lounges, theaters and private events. He is proud to be a part of Genessa & The Selena Experience as a backup vocalist/dancer. His debut album, Higher Than The Sky, was released on June 6, 2016. It’s been called, “an infectious collection of Pop fusion with a mix of R&B, Hip/Hop, Rock, Latin, & Dance!”
